Not so much a concern, more a musing.
Why do we need to keep updating and 'improving' our entertainment technology? Do we really need our TV pictures to be sharper, our mobile phones to be slimmer (and then bigger again with more features, then slimmer again with the same features, then bigger again with bigger screens, then slimmer with big screens but no buttons etc etc.), or our music to sound as if we are sitting right next to the sax player, or our photos perfect, red-eye and camera shake free?
And do computer game console manufacturers just bring out new consoles to make more money or does the technology they use have more useful applications? To me it seems like change for the sake of change. After the x-box comes the x-box 360, we’ve had the Playstation, PS2, PSP, Playstation 3, then along comes the Wii with all its accompanying bits and bobs…and pester power reaches new heights.
I’m not against new technology or computer games – I’ve been known to spend the odd hour playing solitaire on my laptop – but maybe there has to come a time when we think whether any of us need to have more realistic graphics, a sharper picture, a flatter, thinner screen or whatever the next big thing will be.

Couldn't agree more - there are ways to fight back! Says he typing this on an aged, well past it's sell-by-date ex-Corporate Dell laptop running Ubuntu (a type of Linux) that runs like a rocket sledge on rails released from the burden of Windoze bloatware............ it's far faster, more stable, (and totally untroubled by security problems) than a brand-new laptop running the appalling "vista") ;D
